French at Tiptoe

                  Bonjour!

Our children love to learn French. It is never too early to begin learning a language: it is fun, it promotes healthy development, and the many cognitive and social benefits will last a lifetime.

Intent

Our intent is to offer a high quality, carefully planned language education that fosters pupil’s curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. We will provide an introduction to the culture of French- speaking countries and communities. Our intent is to provide an environment where children will speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, continually improving pronunciation and intonation. Our intention is that children will gradually build their skills so that they are enabled to express their ideas and thoughts in French and be able to interact and communicate with others in speech and writing. With motivating multi-sensory activities we intend to provide the foundation for a desire and ability to learn further languages.

Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical-thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and the ability to multitask. Children proficient in other languages also show signs of enhanced creativity and mental flexibility.

Implementation

We have a carefully planned curriculum to sequence our language learning. This begins with some language experienced during our daily routines and in songs right from the early years.

 Language Progression KS2 French

Impact

We assess using our language progression document to see what knowledge the children have gained. We use end of unit tests both oral and written. This enables the teacher to plan carefully for support such as 'over learning' or challenge tasks to extend their skills.
